Meet your guide and after refreshments at the Kelham Island Museum in the 'Cafe at Kelham' there will be a conducted tour of the Museum. Kelham Island museum was opened in 1982 to house the objects, pictures and archive material representing Sheffield's industrial story. The displays at the museum tell that story from the "Little Mester" method of home based manufacture to factory based mass production, skilled workers, revolutionary processes, quality products, invention and innovation.

At the end of the tour we shall travel to the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet where lunch can be taken. It was one of the largest water-powered sites on the River Sheaf, after which Sheffield is named. After lunch you will take a panoramic tour into the Peak District National Park. You will travel through Grindleford village lying in a natural bowl amid wooded hills, almost surrounded by National Trust land. To the east are the crags of Froggatt Edge, to the west the flanks of Sir William Hill shelter the village, while the Longshaw Estate and Padley Gorge bound the northern end. With its wide expanse of moorland, woods and farmland within the National Park you will enjoy extensive views of the surroundings and get a real feel for the ruggedness of the countryside and some understanding of the life of the hardy souls caring for the thousands of sheep grazing hereabouts.

Onwards then to Bakewell, famous for its puddings, with ample opportunity for refreshment, and perhaps a little shopping. On leaving Bakewell you will travel through Chatsworth Park, the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire back to Sheffield where your guide will leave you, after an enjoyable day.
