The Kent High Weald Tour

Enjoy a cruise on South East England's largest lake

The Chalybeate Spring at Royal Tunbridge Wells

Meet your guide in Tonbridge, and after a break for refreshments travel to the village of Hadlow, home of Hadlow ‘Castle’, a Victorian gothic house with a 170ft tower. From Hadlow, you will visit East Peckham, the old centre of the hop growing industry. Continuing through the Kent countryside you will visit Bidborough and see the ancient sandstone Norman Church, with its shingled spire. Leaving Bidborough, you will pass the Sidney family’s Norman manor house Penshurst Place.

You will next take a guided coach tour of the Royal Spa town of Tunbridge Wells, with a fascinating glimpse into everyday Georgian life including the historic Pantiles, the town’s most well known walkway. There is time here for lunch and the chance to see more of the town. After rejoining your coach, head out through the historic villages of Bells Yew Green with the nearby ruins of Bayham Abbey and Lamberhurst, once central to the Wealdon iron industry, at one time the largest in the country.

Bewl Water, the largest stretch of open water in South East England is your next stop. The reservoir is host to a huge variety of wildlife. You will cruise aboard the ‘Swallow’, Bewl Water’s passenger ferry to see the sights of this interesting man-made lake. Once you have disembarked, you can take afternoon refreshments at the ‘Look Out’ restaurant. Return to Tonbridge will be through the delightful villages that make Kent such an interesting place and say goodbye to your guide before setting off on your journey home.
