The Dreaming Spires Tour

A highly informative and fascinating walking tour of the city viewing every aspect

The City of Oxford (Image courtesy of Stuart Yeates)

Your guide will join you on the outskirts of Oxford and take you to the city centre to alight from the coach. You will then have a highly informative and fascinating walking tour of the city viewing every aspect, from the site of the original Saxon settlement to the most recent additions to the University colleges. Oxford today still retains its ancient streets and the meadows that reach to the city centre. This walking tour visits the most famous of the historic buildings and colleges.

Tours will be adapted to suit the requirement of the group and amongst the sights will be Carfax, the central crossroads and site of the original Saxon settlement, Pembroke College with its 17th century quadrangle and Christ Church, Oxford's largest college where the Tom Tower was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Behind Christ Church is Oxford Cathedral, built on the site of a Saxon nunnery. There should also be the opportunity to see Merton College where the 14th century Mob Quad was the scene of riots between students and the townspeople. If time allows you will also see University College, the city's oldest college, All Souls with its beautiful stained glass and the 'Martyrs' Memorial' commemorating Archbishop Cranmer and New College founded in the 14th century.

Your guide will bid you farewell at the end of your half-day guided tour. There will then be the opportunity for you to take lunch or afternoon tea and to perhaps view the Botanic Gardens that sweep down to the River Cherwell.
