![]() A Victorian Day Out ![]() Your guide will meet you in Northwich, and then you will travel to Blakemere Shopping Experience with its gift shops, garden centre and falconry centre. There are craft demonstrations and workshops here, with even the opportunity to use a potter's wheel and 'throw' your own pot. You will take coffee here. From Blakemere you will travel through the Cheshire countryside to your next stop, the Anderton Boat Lift built in 1875 to raise 100-ton barges 50ft from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal. The excellent visitor centre will enable you to see in action a masterpiece of Victorian engineering. There is time to linger here in the grounds or in the interesting exhibition area. In addition you will have the unique experience of travelling on the boat lift. Lunch will be taken here. From Anderton you will see more of the Cheshire countryside before arriving to spend the afternoon at Arley Hall gardens. This is one of Cheshire's most charming country houses; the Hall and Chapel were built between 1832 and 1845 and are a prized example of the Victorian Jacobean style. The Gardens are a plantsman's paradise and are celebrated for the oldest and finest double herbaceous borders in the country. Overall the gardens are considered to be amongst the top ten in Britain. Arley Hall itself is fascinating and has hosted two Coronation Street 'weddings'. You will be able to take afternoon tea here in the 16th century Tudor Barn. After your visit to Arley Hall you will return to Northwich to say farewell to your guide.
