![]() The Worcester and the Waters Tour ![]() Meet your guide at the Worcester Porcelain Museum. Full refreshment facilities are available here and there will be some time to browse in the shopping area. You will then take a guided tour of the City of Worcester, one of England's finest shire towns. Worcester is built on the banks of the River Severn and its magnificent 11th century cathedral is the final resting place of 'Bad' King John. As you wander through the centre you may discover in New Street the Tudor house from which King Charles II is said to have escaped during the Battle of Worcester. In addition you will see the Commandery Civil War Centre. After lunch in one of Worcester's inns or tea rooms you will take the Jubilee Drive towards Great Malvern, a spa town that retains much of its Victorian gentility. You will travel amongst the hills that inspired the composer Elgar to write some of his greatest works. On the journey you will see, on one side the valley of the River Severn and on the other the mountains of Wales through the Herefordshire countryside. The Malvern Festival associated with the playwright George Bernard Shaw and the composer Edward Elgar, was revived in 1977. Some of the most prestigious musicians, poets, writers, filmmakers and other artists perform during October every year. After touring through Great Malvern you will return to Worcester past Madresfield Court, which was frequented in the 1930's by the novelist Evelyn Waugh. Many of the characteristics of the house and its occupants were reproduced in his novel Brideshead Revisited. On your arrival in Worcester you will return to the Worcester Porcelain Museum for refreshment and perhaps a little more shopping before your return home.
