The Shropshire Panoramic Tour

A panoramic tour encompassing Bridgnorth, Cleobury Mortimer, Stanton Lacy, Wenlock Edge and Ludlow, one of the most attractive towns in England

Take a trip on the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway (Image courtesy of Cloud Soup)

Meet your guide on the outskirts of Bridgnorth and make an early stop for morning coffee. You will then be introduced to Britain's only inland funicular railway. For over a century Bridgnorth Cliff Railway has been transporting the people of Bridgnorth and visitors up and down the 111ft sandstone cliffs that separate High Town from Low Town and the River Severn.

A leisurely coach journey will then take you on to Cleobury Mortimer where you will see the 14th century parish church with its twisted spire and bulging walls. From here you will travel to Ludlow, one of the most attractive towns in England, and home to the annual food and drink festival that has now risen to the top of every gourmet's calendar. You can take lunch here. The Feathers Hotel, a beautiful timbered building has been an inn since 1521 and is just one of the hostelries in this popular town.

On your return to Bridgnorth you will pass Stanton Lacy where the church contains one of Britain's few remaining examples of Saxon sculpture in its doorway, 14th Century Shipton Hall. After passing alongside the wooded limestone ridge known as Wenlock Edge there will be a break for refreshment in Much Wenlock with its narrow streets of black and white buildings. The 16th century Guildhall standing on oak pillars and houses a whipping post and mobile stocks. Once in Bridgnorth your guide will bid you farewell.
