![]() The Industrial Revolution Tour ![]() Meet the guide at Bridgnorth for a short introduction to the Severn Valley. You'll see the ruined Bridgnorth Castle with a tilt three times that of the leaning tower of Pisa and be introduced to Britain's only inland funicular railway. For over a century Bridgnorth Cliff Railway has been transporting the people of Bridgnorth up and down the 111ft sandstone cliffs that separate High Town from Low Town and the River Severn. Then off to Coalbrookdale, one of the most remarkable early industrial settlements to survive virtually intact from the height of Britain's Industrial Revolution. There will be the opportunity to walk on the world's oldest iron bridge, built in 1779. You will see Buildwas, Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge, Jackfield, and Broseley. In Coalport The National Collections of Caughley and Coalport china are displayed in the restored buildings of the old Coalport china works. Galleries show the beautiful china and explore the hardships of factory life. These fascinating places will provoke many questions and your fully qualified guide is well equipped to give comprehensive answers. There is the opportunity for lunch in Ironbridge. After lunch you will see Buildwas Abbey, founded in 1135 as a Savignac monastery, later merging with the Cistercian Order. A row of sturdy Norman nave columns emphasise the power and dignity of the relatively small Cistercian church, and appear as stark and imposing today as they would have done in the middle ages. After a stop for refreshment your coach will take you back to Bridgnorth where your guide will leave you prior to your journey home.
