The Forest of Arden Tour

Go back 400 years in one moment whilst touring the Forest of Arden and the beautiful Warwickshire countryside

Your qualified local guide will meet you at Hatton Shopping Village near Warwick for morning coffee. You will then travel through the tranquil Warwickshire countryside to the delightful village of Tanworth in Arden where the history of the area will be explained and the many interesting properties highlighted. From Tanworth you will pass to Henley in Arden with one of Britain's most unspoilt high streets including many fine old timber-framed buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries. The earthworks of the 12th century motte and bailey castle can still be seen next to the Norman Church of St Nicholas.

After leaving Henley in Arden you will travel to Coughton Court where you can take lunch. Coughton Court is a great Tudor family seat still occupied and run by the Throckmorton family. Within the varied grounds is a walled garden containing stunning displays of roses and herbaceous plants, two churches and a lake. You will hear about the house's close association with the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

On leaving Coughton Court you will take a leisurely journey through more of the Warwickshire countryside and may have time to visit Hatton Locks, a major flight of 21 locks on the Grand Union Canal. The Grand Union was once the motorway of the industrial age lifting raw materials out of the Avon Valley to Birmingham for processing. You will then return to Hatton Shopping Village. Your guide will leave you here to enjoy refreshment and take the opportunity to enjoy some shopping in the wide variety of outlets before your journey home.
