Following a refreshment stop en route, you will meet your qualified guide in Oldbury and travel to Smethwick, the home of the Soho Foundry, whose Chief Engineer William Murdock was the pioneer of gas lighting. From Smethwick you will travel out to West Bromwich to view the timber framed 'Oak House', donated to the people of West Bromwich by Alderman Reuban Farley.

Then on to Tipton and Cradley Heath where at the end of the 19th century men, and mainly women working in terrible conditions produced over one thousand tons of hand made chain each week. Then you shall pass Himley Hall, which started life in the 18th century when a medieval manor house on the site belonging to the Earl of Dudley was demolished to make way for a great Palladian mansion. The 180 acres of grounds were designed by Capability Brown to include a great lake fed by a series of waterfalls from a higher chain of smaller pools. Lunch will be taken at a nearby venue, beofre you call at the Baggeridge Country Park, a former colliery, which is today a beautiful area of countryside on the doorstep of the Black Country.

You will then call at Bantock House. Restored to its stunning Edwardian glory, Bantock House is hidden deep within Bantock Park. You can admire the exquisite decorative arts collection that includes exciting Japanned ware. You can take tea here before you travel through the significant towns of the Black Country including Willenhall famous for locks, Darlaston where the great Rubery Owen site stood and Wednesbury an ancient manufacturing and market town. The Saxons named the town Wodensborough, from their god of battle, Woden. After visiting these towns that were the founation of British industrial greatnesss you will leave your guide.
