![]() The Lincoln Castle and Spa Tour ![]() Here is an opportunity to step back in time, to the days of the very young brave men who flew our bomber and fighter aircraft and the men and women who supported them on the gound. Lincolnshire has a wealth of operational and retired Royal Air Force bases where the urgency and the professionalism of sixty years ago can be relived. Thanks to the extensive knowledge of your guide you will have a very informative day. After meeting your guide on the outskirts of Sleaford and taking early refreshment you will travel to Tattershall with its castle and 15th century college and on to RAF Coningsby, opened in 1940 and still an operational station. It is the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Provided they are not on flying duty you will see a Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane. Your next stop is the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby, a re-creation of a WWII airfield complete with an Avro Lancaster that on some days provides taxi-ing rides on the runway. You will take lunch here. After lunch you will cruise in the Lincolnshire countryside through Woodhall Spa, an Edwardian spa town that retains its space and elegance, with its wide tree-lined avenues, through Metheringham and Bracebridge Heath, to RAF Waddington with squadrons of early warning AWACS aircraft and Nimrods. You will then travel to see the remains of Leadenham's 86-acre airfield and onwards to the RAF College at Cranwell, the oldest air training college in the world. At the end of a very full day it's back to Sleaford where your guide will leave you.
