![]() The Hidden England Tour ![]() On this tour you will meet your qualified guide in Melton Mowbray, famous for Pork Pies, Stilton Cheese and hunting. You will see the town and hear the origins of 'painting the town red' and other famous sayings. With luck you will have the opportunity to make your very own Melton Mowbray pork pie. You will learn where King Edward VIII, as the Prince of Wales, met Mrs Wallace Simpson whilst hunting. You will also see The Anne of Cleves House, now a pub, which was part of Anne of Cleves' divorce settlement from Henry VIII. From Melton Mowbray you will travel into the Vale of Belvoir to cruise through classic English villages with their ironstone buildings and attractive parish churches. On a clear day from the ridge of the Vale you can see Lincoln Cathedral, some thirty miles away. Then it's off to Belvoir Castle the home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland where lunch will be taken and you will spend the afternoon. Belvoir Castle is a real home and the interior decoration influences of the current Duchess are everywhere to be seen. With magnificent views over the surrounding countryside, the Castle houses one of the most magnificent art collections in the country, together with some of the finest furniture. Beautiful formal gardens feature 17th century statues. The Duchess' Garden is designed to look spectacular all year round. Surrounding the rustic summerhouse, dating from 1800, the gardens have been lovingly restored to their original beauty. These magical woodland gardens, set in a natural amphitheatre with fresh water springs, are carefully planned to ensure plants bloom all year round.
