Experience the joy of Lincoln and surrounding countryside

The City of Lincoln has dominated and influenced the surrounding countryside for more than 2000 years. From warring tribes, through the occupation by the Romans in the 1st century AD to the Saxons and the Danes to the point 1000 years ago when the Normans created the castle and the cathedral. All of this and the thousand years that followed have bequeathed a city with masses of history that is as unspoilt as any in England.

After meeting your qualified guide and a short break for refreshments, you will be taken on either a walking tour or a coach tour of the fascinating streets and alleys. The choice of walking or travelling by coach will depend on your requirements, because Lincoln is quite a hilly city. The cathedral is the third largest in England so time spent in this massive yet delicate structure will be time well spent. After the morning in the City, lunch can be taken in one of the many hostelries or tea shops the town has to offer.

After lunch we shall set out to see some of the Lincolnshire countryside. First stop is RAF Scampton from where Lancaster bombers took off on the raids over Germany, immortalised in the film 'The Dam Busters' and now the home of the 'Red Arrows'. You will then cruise through the Lincolnshire countryside to the largest antiques centre in Europe, sited on the former Lancaster base RAF Hemswell. Refreshments can be taken here. On departure you will return to Lincoln, where your guide will bid you farewell.
